Italian ship hijacked in Arabian Sea

MILAN, Italy - An Italian ship with 22 crewmen on board was seized by pirates in the Arabian Sea early Thursday morning, according to local news agency Ansa.

The hijack occurred at around 4 am Italian time (0200 GMT), when the ship was in the Arabian Sea about 400 miles off the coast of Oman, it said.

Two small boats approached the ship and the pirates managed to get on board and take possession of the Italian ship "Rosalia D'Amato," which was heading from Brazil to Iran.

According to the report, the hijack occurred without any firing and all the crew members, including six Italians, were well.
