In the Main Missile Early Warning Center in Moscow region, Let. Gen. Sergei Lobov, deputy commander of the Russian Space Forces, told local media that Russia's early warning systems were even able to detect missiles launches from the United States.

"We can see all ballistic missiles launched from the foreign bases," Lobov said, noting that Russia also was in possession of the observation satellites designed to detect the missiles launches.

"Information from Russian warning system could be well useful for the future European anti-missile defense," he said.

Lobov said the Russian early warning system is able to detect Iranian missiles aiming at European targets, but added he believed Iran had not built such missiles.

On Tuesday, Russian Space Forces marked the 40th anniversary of the creation of the national early warning system.
