A man in southern Peru fled from the scene of his own wedding after the family of his existing wife attacked him.

Edwin Ortiz was filmed posing for photographers with his new bride-to-be but was spotted by his wife's sister and aunt, Sky News reports.

Footage showed Ortiz swiftly leaving the ceremony as the women yelled and hit him until he left the ceremony without getting married.

The incident is believed to have occurred at a mass wedding which was being filmed for a local TV broadcast.
