The 'Swine' singer's performance at the South By Southwest festival earlier this month courted controversy when artist Millie Brown vomited green liquid onto the singer, which Demi Lovato claimed was "glamourising eating disorders," but Gaga disagrees.
She told E! news: "I have struggled with an eating disorder for over 10 years and I take that very seriously, I take the struggle of others very seriously.
"I am very supportive of Demi's struggle and her recovery as well as the recovery of anyone who is suffering from that.
"But this performance had absolutely nothing to do with any eating disorder, and we never intended for it to be taken that way.
"I'm really proud of the performance and really stand by the message of rage and pain that we were trying to express in that moment."
Gaga, 27, has previously defended her appearance with the self-described 'vomit painter', saying it was "art in the purest form".
She explained: "Millie and I know that not everybody's going to love that performance, but we both really believe in artistic expression and strong identities. And I support her and what she does.
"We sometimes think that there's a perception that what I'm doing is all a big show. And I really truly feel that it's just part of who I am. Every moment of my life is devoted to my music and to my fans, and it's really truly me."
