"After Earth" tops China's film charts

American sci-fi adventure "After Earth" ruled China's box office charts by raking in 87 million yuan (US$14.1 million) in the week ending July 14.

"Blind Detective," a thriller starring Hong Kong actor Andy Lau, came second in the charts, earning 79 million yuan, China Film News reported on Tuesday. The film tells the story of a veteran detective's efforts to help probe a murder case.

Jay Chou's second film, "The Rooftop," released in Chinese theaters on July 11, came in third in the week, making 60 million yuan. The drama depicts the story of a poor man who falls in love with a celebrity.

Nor far behind was "Tiny Times," a drama inspired by author-turned-director Guo Jingming's novel of the same name. It took in 49 million yuan.

Domestic sci-fi cartoon "Seer III" was fifth in the charts, taking 33 million yuan in the week.
