The 21st Hundred Flowers Film Festival will begin in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, in September.
But the country's highest-grossing films, Jiang Wen's Let the Bullets Fly and Zhang Yimou's The Flowers of War, are surprisingly not nominated for any award.
Those competing for the best film awards include Feng Xiaogang's Aftershock and Teng Huatao's romantic comedy Love is not Blind.
At the awards ceremony, 101 ordinary filmgoers will vote for the final winners.
The four-day festival opens on Sept 26.
