The gay singer - whose two-year-old twin sons Matteo and Valentino were born via a surrogate mother - always wanted to have children and has learned a lot from his kids - including the aspects of fatherhood which he isn't keen on.
He explained: "I've always wanted to be a father. I knew it was something I wanted in my life. One day, I typed 'surrogacy' into the computer and started researching. Now I have twin boys who are the loves of my life.
"Every decision I make is based on my children. They teach me different things every day, such as the beauty in simplicity. But I do hate changing dirty nappies; it's not fun at all."
Ricky, 39, has also learned a great deal of life lessons from fatherhood, particularly about becoming more selfless.
He added to Australia's Daily Telegraph newspaper: "Being a father, you come to know yourself. You have no choice but to become less selfish as it's not about you anymore. But you also have to feel good about yourself in order to set a good example. Fatherhood has made me work on myself."
