Chinese artist Zhou Jie's ongoing exhibition Thread shows 14 of his latest oil paintings that are dominated by black and white colors.

The show, being held at Beijing's Mingtai gallery through Sept 28, has exhibits on which Zhou deliberately weakens the color contrast and seeks to take his viewers on an energetic experience rather than draw an imagery for them. He hopes his works can help people review their attitudes toward emotions and their surroundings.

"When devoid of vivid colors, people are able to calm down and simplify their approach. They will see the world not from a perspective of conflict and conquest but will find peaceful ways to coexist with their environment," Zhou says, interpreting his art.
