As the winner of the Yishu 8 award in 2013, Chesnier received the chance to come to Beijing and stay for three months to work on her art. "The geometrical shapes that Claire Chesnier has invented remind me of the sage Zhuangzi's butterfly – of butterflies that would come to haunt her dreams, suddenly appearing at night, and leaving her unable to discern fact from fiction," says Christine Cayol, founder of Yishu 8.
