Dogs' life in the big city
Meng Jinghui, a trailblazer of Chinese experimental drama, will stage his classic The Life Attitude of Two Dogs in Guangzhou from April 26 to 28.
Two dogs leave their rural home for a big city to pursue their dreams. Much like their human counterparts, they run into difficulties and face discrimination. They complain about the negative aspects of city life - the wealth gap, shaky food safety and counterfeit goods. Throughout the funny yet thought-provoking play, two actors play dozens of characters.
8 pm, April 26-28. Guangzhou No 2 Children's Palace, 273 Huajiu Lu, Zhujiang New Town, Tianhe district, Guangzhou. 400-108-8808.
Living green through art
British artist Matt Hope has a creative solution for people living in the smog and haze that covers Beijing, the Chinese capital that suffers from serious air pollution. Hope blends the concept of green living into his art, and he will explain how he does so at his public lecture in Guangzhou on Saturday.
Besides the "bicycle that can breathe", he also shows his "People's Power Station", an electric generator he designed for sports lovers in a residential community for the 2011 Chengdu Biennale.
3 pm-5 pm, April 20. Fangsuo Commune, TaiKoo Hui Shopping Mall, 383 Tianhe Lu, Tianhe district, Guangzhou. 020-3868-2327.
Splash of color for spring
Artist Qian Lingge invokes the blooming spring with splashes of color on her abstract expressionist paintings. Qian's 60 works are on display at Guangdong Museum of Art until April 21. With her musical background, Qian gives rhyme and rhythm to her work with movements in the strokes.
9 am-5 pm, until April 21. Hall 1-2, Guangdong Museum of Art, 38 Yanyu Lu, Ersha Island, Yuexiu district, Guangzhou. 020-8735-1468.
