The National Art Museum of China's current exhibition Images and Words: From Magritte centers on the interaction between artistic experiments and words and writing, following the manifesto under the same title in 1929 by Belgian surrealist pioneer Rene Magritte (1898-1967). The show juxtaposes some of Magritte's most thought-provoking paintings with multimedia creations by artists who have been influenced by Magritte till today, including Belgian poet, artist and filmmaker Marcel Broodthaers and painter-cum-poet Christian Dotremont. It also displays works by 14 contemporary Chinese artists, who echo Magritte's artistic spirit but reflect different social contexts.
9 am-5 pm, no admission after 4 pm, until Jan 14. National Art Museum of China, 1 Wusi Street, Dongcheng district, Beijing.
010-6400-1476.
