Hong Kong director Peter Chan's new film focuses on friendship and dreams. Young mainland actors Huang Xiaoming, Deng Chao and Tong Dawei play three young men who set up the largest English education institute in China.
Titled American Dreams in China, the film is based on stories of Yu Minhong, founder of New Orient Group, a leading training institution in China. Yu was a teacher at Peking University who failed to go to the United States to pursue his studies. He then created the New Orient, providing private training services for students who are preparing for English tests like the GRE and TOEFL.
Huang Xiaoming leads the cast to play Yu. He has been brushing up his English to be convincing. Chinese supermodel Du Juan plays the heroine, a college student.
The filming has wrapped up in New York. The release date will be in spring 2013.
