The Hadrien de Montferrand Gallery presents Oxymore, a solo exhibition by contemporary French comic artist Enki Bilal.
The exhibition features large-scale oil paintings that are close to the artist's heart, including the lust of women, brutish nature, and his own invention of chess-boxing.
Bilal has created several comic series in the past 15 years. His early works focused on science fiction, which merged with actual history and politics. Later, he boldly abandoned the traditional multi-square format of comic drawings, using just one square as the unit for every work. In this way, the narrative disappears and allows readers to make their own interpretations.
11 am to 6 pm, except Monday, until Sept 9. Hadrien de Montferrand Gallery, 798 Art Zone, 4 Jiuxianqiao Lu, Chaoyang district, Beijing.
