Shooting of Hotelier's wedding scene to begin

Hotelier, a Chinese remake of the classic Korean romantic TV drama, is starting the shooting of "the wedding of the century", one of the show's most important scenes, for which an open casting call has been made to select brides and grooms.

The original show swept Asia a decade ago and the highlight of the Chinese version, starring Cecilia Han, Calvin Yu and Allen Ting, is a grand group wedding featuring real lovers.

As early as last October, the executive producer of Hotelier, Hong Kong director Stanley Tong, announced that the series' climax would have a large wedding party.

Director Jeffrey Chiang says he is confident about filming "the wedding of the century".

"I'll capture the most beautiful moments of all the couples and I won't miss any picturesque spot in Jiulong Lake Resort in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, the show's setting," he says.

Audiences sing praises of Huangmei Opera

More than 5,000 people gathered at the Great Hall of the People on Saturday night to watch the Huangmei Opera Li Siguang, presented by Hubei Huangmei Opera Troupe from Huanggang, Hubei.

The opera tells the story of Li Siguang (1889-1971), a renowned geologist, and his love for science and the country.

Zhang Hui plays the scientist. The national first-grade artist is also winner of the Plum Blossom Prize, China's top award for drama and opera artists.

Youngsters made aware of food safety

The 2011 "Safe Food, Healthy Growth" children food safety education program was launched in Beijing on May 18.

Organized by the China Next Generation Education Foundation, the Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology, and METRO Cash & Carry, the program will cover 60 primary schools in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou in the next two months.

About 24,000 students and their families will be invited to lectures on food safety and nutrition, and take part in onsite activities and demonstrations to apply their newly acquired knowledge to food safety.

There will also be a selection of 60 "Little Food Safety Experts" nationwide.

Drama bonanza to mark Children's Day

To celebrate its 55th anniversary, China Children's Art Theater (CCAT) will present several classic dramas from late May to June 26.

On Children's Day (June 1), CCAT will invite autistic children, children of migrant workers, orphans and physically challenged children to watch Journey to the West. Performers will interact with the kids, and children born in June will enjoy a birthday cake and gifts.

The theater has produced more than 150 children's plays, such as Baby Tadpoles Look for Their Mother, and won many national awards.

CCAT will host the first Chinese Children's Theater Festival from July 16 to Aug 28, with 130 performances of about 30 plays.
