First 10 electric "Chinese red" buses were put into service on Sunday.
The buses, 18 meters long in length, use PM 2.5 automatic filtration device for the first time, along with an enhanced safety system.
The electric buses are shaped like bionic dolphins with lightweight design. They also have a multi-functional area for passengers who are unable to move freely.
Beijing Laoshan charging station for electric buses has been established. Fourteen vehicles can be charged in 15 to 20 minutes at one time through the high-power quick-charging piles.
By the end of this year, 4,536 electric buses will hit the roads, and at least 100 charging stations will be provided.
The line one, the current route of these 10 buses, will be exclusively for electric buses in the future as more vehicles and supporting facilities are established.
