Each new white-collar vacancy in China that was advertised in the week following Spring Festival had almost 24 job seekers vying for it, according to a new report.

Chinese human resources website Zhaopin.com released its latest job competition index on Monday.

The index, which represent the ratio of CVs recruiters receive to the number of vacancies available, stood at 23.9 nationwide between Feb 3 to 9.

Among the 34 cities included in the index, Beijing had the fiercest competition with an index of 44.8. Chengdu, provincial capital of Sichuan province, came second with an index of 30.8. Shanghai was listed at 6th with 22.7 and Guangzhou at 12th with 18.7.

Across different industries, the fiercest competition was recorded in internet and e-commerce, where 27.6 CVs were received for each new post advertised, according to the report.

By contrast, only 14 CVs were received for every post advertised in the fast-moving consumer goods industry, making it the industry with the least competition.
