Chinese engineers have completed the world’s longest desert freeway, China Central Television reported on Monday.
Measuring 930 kilometers in length, the freeway extends from Linhe city in Inner Mongolia autonomous region to Baigeda, on the border of Inner Mongolia and Gansu province.
Costing 37 billion yuan ($5.5 billion), the four-lane freeway runs through the Gobi Desert in Northwest China and the Badain Jaran Desert, one of the four biggest deserts in China.
The freeway is part of the 2,582-km Beijing-Urumqi freeway, which is still under construction.
