Persistent rain - the most in recorded history - has left 14 dead, one missing and caused direct economic loss of 2.265 billion yuan ($338.7 million)in capital city of central China's Hubei Province Wuhan, authorities said.
As of 12 am on Wednesday, 167,897 people have been relocated and 5,848 rooms collapsed, said Xu Yuanmin, vice director general of Wuhan civil affairs bureau.
According to Wuhan's metrological department, rainfall in Wuhan in the past one week has reached a historical high of 560.5 millimeters.
The former greatest rainfall in one week was recorded in 1991 at 542.8 millimeters.
Xu said 1,100 tents, 1,100 folding beds and other daily necessities, including 4,000 boxes of instant noodles and 1,732 boxes of bottled water, have been dispatched to people affected.
Meanwhile, another 10,000 folding beds, a large amount of food and bottled water are still needed, Xu said. The flooding makes the transportation of the relief materials difficult.
The flooding due to the persistent rain has paralyzed more than 200 roads in urban areas of Wuhan, resulting in damage to vehicles. As of 12 am, Ping An Insurance Co along has received 2,992 reports of cases from the city's urban areas.
The company has simplified the processing procedure as more cases are being reported. For those cases in which nobody was hurt with losses under 10,000 yuan, vehicles could be sent to the garage after their owners made a service call.
