Chimelong Group Co, a conglomerate that owns and operates theme parks, luxury hotels and leisure entertainment businesses, opened a bird park in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province.
The bird park, which is formerly a park for crocodiles, will be developed into an important base to protect rare wetland birds, according to Dong Guixin, general manager of the Chimelong Birds Park.
"We will introduce more rare birds from overseas in the near future, aiming to develop into the largest breeding and protection center for rare birds," said Dong.
The park currently houses over 10,000 birds of more than 100 species, with over 1,500 new birds born each year, according to Dong.
The park is now the largest breeding center for parrots in China and the world’s largest artificial feeding base of greater flamingos.
This year, the park successfully bred five red-crowned cranes and 88 golden pheasants.
