NANJING - A teenager received a suspended sentence after she was found guilty of killing her baby by throwing it out of an eighth-floor window, a court in East China's Jiangsu province said Thursday.
Huqiu District People's Court in Suzhou city gave the woman, identified only as Cai, a prison term of three years with a four-year probation period for intentional homicide.
The mother, who was 17 at the time, gave birth to her baby in a toilet at a rented apartment in August 2015, according to a statement issued by the court.
When Cai, who had no inkling that she was pregnant, heard her newborn's first cries, she panicked and threw her out of the bathroom window to avoid any unwanted attention from her neighbors, said the statement.
Cai got pregnant during a drunken one-night stand with an underage boy she had met online. Cai told the court she could not even remember the name of the baby's father.
The court heard the case in a private session and gave a lighter sentence as underage juveniles were involved. The court did not disclose the judgement date.
