Recent events related to Taiwan-connected telecom fraud cases
March
Malaysian and Chinese mainland police cooperate in destroying five telecom fraud dens located in Malaysia. They arrest 117 Chinese suspects, 65 from the mainland and 52 from Taiwan.
April 14
Seventy-seven Chinese people, including 45 Taiwan residents, are repatriated to the mainland from Kenya for suspected telecommunications fraud.
April 15
Among the 52 suspects from Taiwan arrested in March, 20 are transferred from Malaysia to the Taiwan authorities and released at the airport by Taiwan police, who cited a lack of evidence.
April 23
All 45 Taiwan telecom fraud suspects who were repatriated to the mainland from Kenya issue confessions.
April 30
Thirty-two suspects from Taiwan who were among the 52 Taiwan suspects arrested in Malaysia in March are repatriated to the mainland.
