BEIJING - China's meteorological authority on Sunday announced the continuation of its blue alert, the lowest in a four-tier warning system, as rainstorms will hit some southern regions.
On Sunday and Monday, parts of Guizhou Province, regions south of the Yangtze River and southern China will be hit by torrential rain, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said in a statement on its website.
Rainfall is expected to reach 100 to 120 millimeters in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the provinces of Hunan, Guangdong, Jiangxi and Fujian, according to the statement.
These areas will also see thunderstorms, strong wind or hail, it said.
The NMC suggested to people living in the affected areas that they should avoid outdoor activities and take precautions against possible landslides and mud-rock flows.
China has a four-tier color-coded warning system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue. Enditem
