Chinese Dance Sport Federation announced on Friday the launch of a nationwide dance sport competition, the 7th "Jinkun Culture Cup", to promote mass fitness.
The event will kick off its opening leg in Wuhan, Hubei province, from April 15 to 17 with thousands of sports dancer taking part in competitions in more 100 disciplines such as waltz, tango, samba and rumba.
The Wuhan leg will be followed by four more regional stops in Shanghai, Tianjin, Zhengzhou in Henan province, and Shenzhen in Guangdong province before the series final, which will be staged in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province.
One of the highlights of this year's event will be introducing an entirely new scoring system, which has been used in international events organized by World Dance Sport Federation.
The new system will help judges to assess participants' performances in a more objective and more impartial way while allowing athletes to review their performances with the help of data analysis.
Liu Beijian, deputy director of social sports center of the General Administration of Sport of China, expects the event to further promote the popularity of dance sport among the public.
"Sports dancing has long been a popular way for Chinese people to exercise while socializing with their fellow neighbors and friends. The event has offered a platform for more grassroots dancers to demonstrate their passion and skills on a higher stage. We believe more people will be interested in sports dancing by hosting the event at their doorsteps," she said.
