BEIJING - China is in talks with Djibouti about developing an infrastructure project offering logistics support to Chinese convoys, according to a Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Thursday.
Spokesman Hong Lei said at a routine press briefing that developing a local and efficient logistics support station in Djibouti is essential for food and power supply and temporary rest for Chinese escort ships.
Infrastructure development will help the Chinese navy escort ships to carry out international obligations and protect global and regional peace and stability, Hong said.
China has sent 21 escort fleets to conduct escort tasks in the Gulf of Aden and Somalia waters in line with UN resolutions.
