China's two-child policy would greatly benefit the Walt Disney Company, said CEO Robert Iger at a global meeting of University of Southern California in Shanghai on October 30.

"Thanks for sending us more kids," Iger joked, adding that he wanted to write a thank-you note to Chinese leaders.

The government announced an end to its more than 30-year-old "one-child policy" on Thursday in a statement issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee, which means about 90 million couples will become eligible to have a second child.

Iger said it's a good opportunity for Disney as now there will be more children, which means more little visitors will go to Disneyland in the future.

Shanghai Disneyland, whose construction started in April 2011, is set to open in 2016 spring.

"China is the world's most populous country and the most dynamic economy, especially Shanghai, a place which is full of innovation and fresh vitality," said Iger, adding that all Fortune 500 companies regard Shanghai as a vital and inspiring city and would like to be present there.

As the first Disneyland Park in Chinese mainland, Shanghai Disneyland mixes the local culture, where visitors can not only play in a Western Disneyland but also feel the Chinese culture.
