BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged the Communist Party of China (CPC) cadres and members to set an example in improving work styles and serving the people.
Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks on Friday at a study session attended by members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, according to a press release on Saturday.
"We should always keep the 'three stricts and three earnests' in mind, adhere to the truth and resolutely correct misconduct that goes against the cause of the CPC and the people," said Xi while presiding over the meeting.
The "three stricts and three earnests" is a series of requirements for officials to improve their lifestyles and work. It refers to being strict in moral, power and discipline, as well as being earnest in decisions, business and behavior.
The education campaign on requirements for officials at or above the county level is an important step for Party building this year, and all Party committees have carried out study and inspections since the campaign started this April, Xi said.
Xi stressed that the CPC's advanced nature and purity as well as its image and prestige are closely tied to the future of the Party and the nation.
"We must run the Party strictly and maintain close relations with the people," said Xi.
Xi reiterated that CPC members should have faith in Marxism, communism and socialism and they should remain loyal to the CPC and people.
CPC officials should improve and discipline themselves in daily work and life to meet the "stricts" and "earnests" requirements and maintain caution against erroneous ideas, Xi said.
Every CPC member has the duty to improve themselves, correct misbehavior, and receive supervision from others, Xi said.
The "stricts" and "earnests" carry forward traditional Chinese virtues, and they should be promoted nationwide, Xi said.
Xi said that the CPC will continue the education campaign, learn from positive examples and draw lessons from negative cases, strive to solve problems and carry out criticism and self-criticism.
The CPC should also stipulate regulations to put the "stricts" and "earnests" into long-term practice, integrate the education campaign with reform, encourage officials to lead economic development and cope with risks and hidden dangers.
Group study is a system China's top leadership uses to discuss major issues. Friday's session was the 26th group study of the Political Bureau of the 18th CPC Central Committee.
