The 6th International Conference on Nanoscience and Technology attracted more than 1,300 researchers and industrial experts to Beijing from Thursday to Saturday.
The biennial event, since being launched in 2005, has developed into the largest event for the nano industry in China.
"It is well known that nanotechnology, information technology and biological technology form the pillars of the current world," said Bai Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a renowned nano scientist.
Chinese scientists have been actively developing basic and applied research in nanoscience since the mid-1980s.
"Three decades of dedicated efforts in nanoscience and technology have been demonstrated by the rapid growth of nanotechnology publications and patents, which provide a solid foundation for technological application," Bai said.
However, Bai admits that there are still many aspects to be improved through the progress from basic research to technological innovations, and from patent to products.
"During this process we should reinforce the interactive relationship among nanotechnology innovation chains and strengthen the technological transformation, so that the combination of manufacturing, learning, research and application can play greater roles in the progress of nanotechnology," he said.
During the three-day conference, seven world-leading scholars were scheduled to give plenary lectures, and more than 500 oral presentations were arranged at 14 venues including 600 scientific posters and the newest instruments and technology from several dozens of companies.
