Li tells Ban China will continue to support UN

China will continue to support the work of the United Nations and remain dedicated to maintaining world peace and promoting development, Premier Li Keqaing told visiting UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday afternoon.

China hopes that consensus could be reached during the series of summits planned by the UN, Li said.

Ban Ki-moon is in Beijing to attend the celebrations of the 70 anniversary of the end of World War II and the victory of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-45).

The UN has played an important role in maintaining world peace and promoting joint development under current situation, Li said, noting that this year also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the UN.

China will continue to invest more in poverty-reduction, make ultimate efforts to deal with climate change, and make contributions to the implementation of the UN agenda, Li said.

Ban Ki-moon spoke highly of China's contributions to the development of national economy and poverty-reduction, maintaining world peace, and promoting development.

Ban Ki-moon said that he expects and believes that China will play a bigger role in sustainable development and dealing with challenges such as climate change.
