Liu Qibao, director of publicity for the Communist Party of China Central Committee, wants translators, publishers, and other related sides to join hands to better enhance the popularity of Chinese books overseas so that the world can grasp a better understanding of China, when visiting the 22nd Beijing International Book Fair on Saturday morning.
Liu was in Beijing Saturday morning as a special guest for the 22nd Beijing International Book Fair. Hosted by the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing's Shunyi district, the fair will go on from on August 26th to Sunday, August 30th.
With major domestic publishers displaying their booths around the exhibition center, Liu made sure he got the chance to get a look at where the literature market is at. Liu also took a special tour of the book exhibition's themed 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and China's victory in the war against Japanese aggression.Liu emphasized that content should be the most important element for publishers to consider when deciding on which books to publish. And quality should be put first rather than quantity.
"Publishers should better understand the needs of overseas readers and their reading habits to better introduce books about China's social system, the Chinese dream, and changes to modern China. By presenting both Chinese classics and excellent modern works to overseas readers, books can help to present a charming China to the world,"said Liu.
"China needs to cultivate leading international publishers to better explore the overseas market and cooperate with foreign publishers. That way we can introduce more books to mainstream readers around the world."
To let the world better understand China's eight-year resistance against Japanese aggression and its importance for the WWII, Chinese publishers are making an overall effort to introduce literature about China's tremendous sacrifice and important contribution to the world's anti-fascist war as the major battlefield in the East.
