Good Samaritan charity awards wrongly accused boys
Three boys in Dazhou, Sichuan province have been awarded Good Samaritan prizes after they were wrongly accused of pushing over an elderly woman, qq.com reported on Tuesday.
Two years ago, the elderly woman asked the boys who were playing nearby to help her up after she had fallen over. But later in the hospital, the woman turned on the boys, saying that they had pushed her over and demanding 7,500 yuan in compensation from their families.
The children's families ended up paying 1,100 yuan to the woman in a negotiated settlement, after the judicial mediation failed the parties.
The incident has drawn wide attention from the media and the public.
Now two years later when the truth has come to light, a charity website that honors Good Samaritans around China presented the three with a shared reward of 5,000 yuan for their good deed.
According to the report, the woman was spared seven days in detention because she was over 70.
