A former institute official in Yulin city, Shaanxi province, was recently sentenced to 10 years and 6 months imprisonment for bribery.
Feng Sanhai, former deputy director of the Yulin Agricultural Sciences Research Institute, was responsible for an infrastructure project there from March 2011.
The police investigation found that from July 2011 to June 2012, Feng accepted 130,000 yuan ($20,935) in bribes from a local construction company. Feng helped the company get hired for the project.
A local court heard the case and considered that Fang, as a public official, used his position to seek benefits from others. For this he was fined 30,000 yuan and the 130,000 yuan in bribes was recovered.
