Shanghai prosecutors said on Monday that they have approved the arrest of three Chinese celebrities for intentional injury after they allegedly attacked a taxi driver.
Prosecutors in Huangpu district of Shanghai announced Monday afternoon that they agreed to detain former soccer star Gao Feng, popular actor Nie Yuan and He Mu, a young scriptwriter, after they allegedly assaulted a taxi driver in a hotel lobby on March 9.
The fight started with a quarrel between Qiu Qiming, a former anchor at the China Central Television and the driver, according to the district's police. It's claimed that Gao and Nie, who were with Qiu at the time, attacked the driver, fracturing his left eye socket and injuring his nose and shoulder.
Qiu has been released on bail later after the incident.
Gao later tested positive for crystal methamphetamine and confessed to drug use in interrogation.
