Macao to launch election for 4th-term Chief Executive

MACAO - The election for the fourth-term Chief Executive of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will be held at 10:00 local time on Sunday at Macao International Convention Center of Macao East Asian Games Dome.
The tenure of Macao's incumbent third-term Chief Executive Chui Sai On ends on Dec 19. Chui announced his running for re-election on July 15 as the sole candidate for the election.
According to the Basic Law of the Macao SAR, the Chief Executive, with a five-year tenure for each term, shall be elected by a broadly representative Election Committee in accordance with the law and appointed by China's central government.
The fourth-term Chief Executive Election Committee of Macao comprises 400 members, increased from 300 members of the previous election, according to the region's Method for the Selection of the Chief Executive.
All the 400 members of the Election Committee for Macao's fourth-term Chief Executive were selected on June 29.
According to the selection method, candidates for the office of Macao's fourth-term Chief Executive shall be nominated by no less than 66 members of the Election Committee. Each member may nominate only one candidate.
