Xi grieves over Taiwan gas leak explosions

BEIJING - Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, on Friday conveyed condolences to the victims in the gas leak explosions hitting Kaohsiung city in Taiwan on Thursday.

The death toll in the explosions rose to 24 as of 9 am Friday local time, the latest figure from the island's firefighting authority showed. 271 others were injured.
