HEFEI - A former land management official in East China's Anhui province stood trial on Wednesday on corruption charges.

During the trial at the Intermediate People's Court of Suzhou City, procurators accused Chen Lianggang, 52, former head of the provincial land and resources department, of taking bribes of over 9 million yuan (about $1.44 million) from 2004 to 2013.

The procurators said Chen took advantage of his post to help real estate companies and individuals obtain land and promotions while acting as head of the policy making division of the department, deputy head of the department, deputy secretary of Party committee of Huaibei City as well as head of the department.

In return, the companies and people offered him bribes, including cash, shopping cards, shares and dividends.
