An HIV-positive child in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, was taken to hospital for treatment but his mother concealed his condition because she feared doctors would refuse to treat her son, Southern Metropolis Daily reported on Tuesday.
The 4-year-old boy was taken to Shenzhen Children Hospital on April 25 with a bleeding wound to his head and doctors found he had HIV during an examination before surgery, and the mother then confirmed he had contracted HIV from her during his birth.
The boy's condition upset the six doctors and nurses who had treated him without appropriate precautions and who fear they may have been infected.
Experts said the declaration of such infectious diseases must be shared truthfully with medical staff.
