Shanghai's legislature is considering a ban on fireworks.
The city people's congress is planning to conduct research on the amendment to a local regulation on fireworks and firecrackers safety management, local media reported on Friday.
Earlier this year, some legislators proposed a ban of the sale of fireworks and firecrackers, expanding the area where fireworks are permitted and increasing the punishment.
Fireworks and firecrackers have negative effects on city residents' personal safety, and also pollute the air, said Li Ming, a legislator.
Li suggested that the city should ban the sale of fireworks and firecrackers.
