The University of Nottingham Ningbo China, China's first Sino-foreign collaborative university, marked its 10th anniversary in China on Thursday.
More than 15,000 students, including undergraduates, postgraduates and PhD graduates, have graduated from the university, which was founded in Zhejiang province in 2004.
The university now has more than 600 teaching staff and more than 6,000 students on campus, 10.7 percent of whom are international students from 70 countries.
Nick Miles, provost of the university, told a news conference in Beijing on Thursday that they attach great importance to teaching quality, and therefore their graduates were welcomed both by prestigious universities and employers around the world.
Among the six batches of students who have graduated from the university, 70 percent were admitted by good universities both in China and abroad, and 25 percent chose to work, most being employed by Fortune Global 500 companies, according to Miles.
Some also started their own multinational businesses, he added.
Xu Yafen, chairperson of the university, said the characteristics that make Nottingham Ningbo different from other Sino-foreign collaborative universities is that it was the first one and completely introduced the educational idea, model and system of the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom.
"Our courses are taught in English in small classes; textbooks are introduced from the University of Nottingham in the UK; teachers are employed under the criteria of the University of Nottingham in the UK; we share all the teaching resources and information with the University of Nottingham in the UK, and students' credentials are issued by the University of Nottingham in the UK," she said.
Miles said they hope to develop Nottingham Ningbo into an internationalized research university with students from different disciplines and backgrounds. They want to increase the proportion of international students from 10 to 20 percent.
"I have confidence in realizing that goal, as more and more people in China and abroad know and recognize us," Miles said.
