GUANGZHOU - The construction of a funeral home in south China's Guangdong Province has been suspended after more than 500 locals protested against it, local authorities announced on Sunday.
More than 500 residents of Ligang township in Huazhou city staged protest to express their objection against the construction of funeral home in their town on Saturday, according to authorities with the city's publicity department.
A resident surnamed Zhou said there were 2,000 gathered at the scene.
The construction of the funeral home has been suspended as of 5 p.m. Sunday, after local authorities announced the decision on Saturday afternoon.
In March, more than 1,000 people in Maoming city in Guangzhou Province protested against a paraxylene (PX) project in front of the government building for two days.
The project has been suspended and local authorities said they will consult public opinion over the project.
