Shanghai gives nod to guide dogs

Chen Xin gets off a bus on Tuesday with the help of her guide dog, in Shanghai on April 1. A set of regulations on the protection of disabled persons took effect on Tuesday in Shanghai, which include allowing guide dogs to enter public places and take public transit. The municipality's dog breeders' administrative rules released in 2011 had made such stipulations, but some transport workers rejected guide dogs, being either unaware of the rules or concerned the animals might cause problems. The new regulations aim to reaffirm guide dogs' rights and further protect blind people's safety. [Photo/Xinhua]
