On Tuesday, more than 30 official cars were damaged and 27 police officers hurt by local villagers in Jinning county, Yunnan province, the county government said on Wednesday.
At 2:45 pm on Oct 22, about 200 villagers in Jincheng township obstructed the police who were to summon two suspects. Eleven officers and three cars were "detained" by the locals. By 5:30 pm, the county government had sent about 100 policemen to the scene after 26 officers and an auxiliary police officer had been hurt.
On Tuesday night, the 27 injured were taken to a hospital for treatment in Kunming, capital of Yunnan province. As of midday Wednesday, one of three who were severely wounded was still in critical condition. All the police and officials left the village at around 1:40 pm on Wednesday after rounds of negotiations.
The city government of Kunming that administers Jinning said the government would respect villagers' appeals concerning land acquisition and their compensation demands.
