Sichuan prosecutors approved the arrest of a man on Monday who stole a police bus and drove it on a highway trying to elude a police chase after watching a similar scene in a movie, Yibin Daily reported.
The man stole the police bus, one window of which was unfastened, on Sept 4 after he watched The Fast and the Furious and decided to imitate a scene in which a main character drives a stolen car at top speed, the report said.
Police were dispatched to stop him after the vehicle was located by GPS. The man drove through a tollgate to escape when he saw the police and drove the bus in a zigzag pattern on the highway crowded with heavy traffic, causing a police car to rear-end a truck.
The man was captured after the bus hit a green belt and turned over.
