A woman in Beijing sued for compensation after her dog was killed by airport workers when it escaped from a broken cage, the Beijing News reported on Friday.
The dog owner said that she traveled by air from Beijing to Haikou, capital of Hainan province on Jan 2, 2012 and her dog was carried on the flight as checked baggage. However the cage containing the dog was damaged and the dog escaped and ran onto the runway where it was killed by airport staff members at Haikou Meilan International Airport.
The law suit was against the airport and sought compensation of 100,000 yuan ($16,300).
The case was heard by Beijing Chaoyang district court on Thursday and the defendant agreed to court mediation. The court will make its judgment later.
