Over 60% babies unplanned, survey shows

Contraceptive failure contributed to more than 60 percent of the babies born in the past year in Shanghai, a technology center promoting better quality pregnancy showed in survey results published on Thursday, the World Contraception Day, xinmin.com.cn reported.
The technology center of family planning and bearing and rearing better children under the Navy General Hospital found that only 72 couples of 200 interviewed in Shanghai planned their pregnancies.
The survey also found wives are responsible for contraception in most cases.
Among the 128 couples that had unplanned babies, only 20 percent of the husbands used condoms or other contraceptive methods.
