Shanghai's middle and primary schools will introduce new recipes to help control excess weight and obesity among students, the Shanghai Evening Post reported.
Students will have healthy and well-balanced lunch dishes on offer from the end of September.
Nutrition experts from Shanghai Xinhua hospital and Shanghai Institute for Pediatric Research compiled guidance for the healthier school lunches. That includes 33 sets of recipes targeting different age groups, from primary school through high school.
The guidance also provides instructions on healthy cooking methods. More steamed foods are highly recommended to replace fried food. The amount of salt will also be reduced.
