GM foods
Fang Zhouzi, a popular scientific writer and China Central Television's star host Cui Yongyuan debated the safety of genetically modified food on Weibo, including rice and corn, which was labeled scientifically safe when Fang helped organize a taste testing of boiled GM corn in Beijing on Saturday.
"You can choose to eat, I can choose not and I have the right to query on whether the science that you understood is really scientific or not," Cui said.
Brick treasures
About 30,000 bricks from the city wall of Nanjing during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) were found by accident in the city's Qinhuai district when local authorities launched a demolition for some buildings.
The precious bricks, from 600 years ago, will all be recycled officially for further protection, Yangzi Evening News reported.
Bank robber
A 32-year-old software engineer surnamed Yang in Beijing was sentenced to ten years in jail for robbing a bank as he needed 170,000 yuan for a down payments, cnr.cn reported.
"I asked the bank to give me 300,000 yuan since I was afraid that the bank will bargain with me," he said.
Loving classmates
Yuan Shuai, an 11-year-old boy who suffered from an inherited neuromuscular disorder in Sichuan province, has never dropped out of school and is taken in a sedan chair by four of his classmates everyday, Sichuan Daily reported on Monday.
The total weight of the sedan chair with Yuan sitting is about 35 kilograms, which was somewhat heavy for his classmates, but they have insisted for two years as they said "because we are friends".
