The urea content in swimming pools in many five-star hotels in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, was higher than national standards, according to a water monitoring report.
The report, published on the Guangzhou bureau of health website, also indicates the water quality at swimming pools in seven local universities and colleges also failed to meet standards.
The report was issued on Friday after the health bureau inspected 337 public swimming pools in May and June.
Only 64.1 percent of the city’s swimming pools passed sanitation examinations.
