BEIJING - China on Thursday launched the selection of 10 national model teachers, inviting the public to cast their votes through newspapers and the Internet, according to a statement issued on the website of the Ministry of Education.

The 10 model teachers will be chosen across the country from 64 candidates who have been recommended by local education organs and will be honored on the Teacher's Day, which falls on September 10, the statement said.

People can mail votes or visit www.moe.gov.cn to submit online votes before August 2, it said.

The selection was jointly held by the ministry and media including Xinhua News Agency, the People's Daily and the China Youth Daily.
