A nationwide collaborative network for treating acute kidney injury was established earlier this month, with more than 100 hospitals from 30 provinces and cities joined for the cause.

Acute kidney injury is a disease that results in kidney failure that can be contracted from complications in surgery, injuries, drugs and poisons. Some victims of earthquakes and other natural disasters, as well as traffic accidents have died from acute kidney injury.

“Effective prevention and treatment of acute kidney injury is important in the assessment of a country's overall emergency and non-emergency medical system. But currently, an effective collaborative model and standardized guidelines are still needed in China,” said Ding Xiaoqiang, a professor from Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital.

Earlier this month, a collaborative network for treating acute kidney injury was established in Shanghai. Based on its success, the national network will further integrate the country's clinical resources and academic advantages, as well as study prevention methods for acute kidney injury.
