A senior legislator has been expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office for serious disciplinary violations in Guangdong province.

An investigation into Li Zhujiang, deputy secretary-general of Guangdong's top legislative body, is under way, according to a statement from the Guangdong Party Commission for Discipline Inspection on Thursday.

Li, born in Guangdong's Xingning city in July 1954, allegedly accepted large bribes when he was head of the Guangdong Provincial Oceanic & Fishery Administration between February 2000 and September 2009.

Early this year, Chen Hongping, another secretary-general of Guangdong People's Congress, was expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office for serious disciplinary violations.

Chen, 58, was also suspected of taking large bribes when he was Party secretary of Jieyang city in eastern Guangdong.
